Catholic Church Releases Burial Program for Bukalango'S Msgr Expedito Magembe

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Archdiocese of Kampala has released the official burial arrangements for the late Monsignor Expedito Magembe, the revered spiritual leader and head of Mt. Sion Catholic Prayer Center in Bukalango.

In a statement signed by the Chancellor of Kampala Archdiocese, Fr. Pius Male Ssentumbwe, it was announced that the body of Monsignor Magembe will arrive at Bukalango today, Sunday at 12:00 PM. A memorial Mass will be held in his honor, followed by additional Masses as part of the funeral rites.

On Monday morning, the body will be transported to Kisubi Seminary. A send-off Mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM, and Monsignor Magembe will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM within the seminary grounds.

However, the burial arrangements have stirred disappointment among many of the faithful and residents around Bukalango Hill.

Several mourners expressed dismay at the decision to bury Monsignor Magembe at Kisubi Seminary, rather than at Bukalango where he served for years and built a legacy of prayer and spiritual guidance.

“We were not consulted in this process,” said one resident. “We had hoped that Monsignor Magembe would be buried here, like other spiritual leaders before him. We had even prepared a burial site.”

The faithful cited the example of the late JB Mukajanga, a well-known Catholic lay preacher buried at Bukalango, whose grave continues to draw pilgrims seeking prayer and inspiration. They believe Monsignor Magembe’s final resting place should offer the same access and spiritual connection.

The mood at Bukalango remains somber. Devotees continue to gather in prayer, many seen reciting the rosary and seeking consolation from the Virgin Mary. Traditional mourning practices are also underway, with fires lit for cooking and meals being prepared for the growing number of mourners.

Monsignor Expedito Magembe is remembered as a spiritual pillar whose dedication to faith and service left a lasting impact on countless lives. His passing marks the end of a profound chapter in the religious life of Bukalango and beyond.

MsgrAs the Archdiocese proceeds with the planned arrangements, many faithful continue to express both grief and gratitude—for the life of a man they call a true shepherd of souls.
