Africa-Press – Uganda. Friday, 16th May 2025, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has gone to the polls to elect party structures at the Sub-county, Town Council, and Municipal Division levels.
The NRM sub-county structure elections have commenced in Kampala, with heightened security at various polling stations to ensure a smooth process.
At Kampala Central Block 2B, Salim Uhuru and Minsa Kabanda went through unopposed. Salim Uhuru, the Kampala Central Mayor, and Minsa Kabanda, the Minister for Kampala, were declared winners for the positions of Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Finance for Block 2B, respectively.
Voting is being conducted by lining up, where the elections registrar counts the number of people standing behind each candidate. The candidate with the majority is declared the winner.
However to maintain order, non-voters have been blocked from accessing the voting areas.
The Registrar is in charge of overseeing the exercise. This is strictly a college election, where only eligible members of the electoral college are allowed to contest or vote for structures at the sub-county level.
