Marriage is a Sacred Obligation, Mufti’S Deputy Urges Muslim Couples

Africa-Press – Uganda. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti of Uganda, has called on Muslim couples to regard marriage as a sacred obligation rooted in God-consciousness.

He made the remarks during the wedding ceremony of Mr. Warid Bemba and Shakira Kalumba held in Kakubo, Booza, Butambala near Mpigi Town Council.

Speaking to the newlyweds and the assembled guests, Sheikh Bukenya emphasised the importance of mutual support between spouses in all circumstances.

He urged couples to seek guidance from Allah through prayer during difficult times and to consult their parents, responsible relatives, and religious leaders before making decisions that could threaten their marriage.

“Always carry in your heart the memory of the many people who came to witness your union before you make any decision that could wreck it,” Sheikh Bukenya said.

The ceremony drew a cross-section of dignitaries and religious leaders, including Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs; Aisha Kabanda, Woman MP for the area; Sheikh Imran Ssali, UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs; Sheikh Juma Mawejje Kabanda, Regional Assistant to the Mufti for West Buganda; and Sheikh Muhammad Iddi Kabuye, Kadhi of Greater Mpigi.

The event also served as a tribute to the bride’s father, Mr. Ismail Kalumba Butanaziba, a veteran broadcaster at Radio Bilal FM 94.1, recognised for his contributions to community development through radio sensitisation.

In his address, Sheikh Bukenya announced a new resolution by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee, chaired by the Mufti of Uganda,Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje.

The resolution prohibits UMSC officials from acting as campaign agents for politicians in the forthcoming national elections to safeguard mosque neutrality.

Sheikh Imran Ssali officiated the marriage vows, while clan heads and imams offered guidance and encouragement to the couple.
