Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), led by veteran opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, has been officially registered as a political party in Uganda, marking a major shift in the country’s pre-2026 election dynamics.
The announcement was confirmed by the Electoral Commission following the party’s gazetting on May 16 after a six-month application process.
PFF leaders were seen dressed in the party’s white and royal blue colors, alongside its symbol a mobile phone handset and the slogan, “Freedom for all,all for freedom.” The branding emphasises digital-age mobilisation and inclusivity.
While PFF’s entry signals renewed opposition energy, it has already stirred debate , analysts worry it could split opposition votes, particularly from the National Unity Platform (NUP), potentially benefiting the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) led by President Museveni.
With Uganda’s political landscape historically dominated by the NRM and marred by repression claims, the rise of PFF sets the stage for a contested and possibly more fractured 2026 election.
