Africa-Press – Uganda. Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has joined the “Buganda for Museveni” campaign, urging the people of Lwengo District to rally behind President Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Addressing a crowd in Kyazanga Town Council, Among insisted that only Museveni can guarantee peace and stability for Uganda.
The campaign, which is gaining momentum under the theme Buganda for Museveni, is part of a broader strategy by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to reclaim political influence in Buganda—a region where the party suffered a major setback in 2021, losing heavily to the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
“For us in the Teso region, we have already decided—we are giving our votes to President Museveni,” Among declared.
“How many of you here in Lwengo are ready to do the same? We cannot afford instability when we have Museveni as president.”
Among was joined by Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, Lwengo MP Muhammad Ssentayi, and other NRM leaders who emphasized the need for unity and voter mobilisation ahead of the 2026 elections.
Nankabirwa did not mince words about the party’s dismal performance in Buganda during the last election.
“All other regions were painted yellow, except Buganda, which turned red,” she said, referring to the symbolic colours of NRM and NUP.
“It was a moment of shame for us. We felt like the earth should swallow us, but it was impossible.”
Despite the 2021 results, Nankabirwa praised Museveni’s continued commitment to Buganda, citing key ministerial appointments from the region as proof.
“He gave us Energy, Lands, Water—ministries that matter. This shows that he still holds Buganda dear.”
MP Ssentayi stressed the importance of such campaign gatherings, saying they serve to counter what he called “opposition propaganda” and help solidify support for the NRM.
The campaign stop in Kyazanga comes just months before the official election season kicks off.
Whether the renewed charm offensive will be enough to win back Buganda remains to be seen—but the NRM appears determined to leave nothing to chance.
