UPDF Condoles with Family of Civilian Killed in Lwemiyaga Shooting

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has offered its sympathies to the family of Fred Ssembusi, who lost his life last week.

Ssembusi, was shot by Lt Zziwa Bashir on June 26 during a political event in Lwemiyaga, located in Sembabule District.

Maj Gen Deus K. Sande, Commander of the Armoured Division, visited the grieving family on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces.

During the visit, he conveyed condolences and presented a financial contribution of three million shillings to assist with funeral expenses.

While addressing mourners, Maj Gen Sande denounced the shooting, affirming that the UPDF had launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

He underlined the army’s zero-tolerance policy on misconduct within its ranks and pledged accountability.

“This is a painful incident, and as UPDF, we do not condone such actions. We assure the family and the public that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves,” said Maj Gen Sande.

He also assured those in attendance that the army would adopt corrective actions to avert similar tragedies in the future.

The condolence event drew the presence of several key figures, including Theodore Ssekikubo, MP for Lwemiyaga County, the Resident District Commissioner, local council leaders, and members of the community.
