Africa-Press – Uganda. Buikwe South Michael Lulume Bayigga, a long-time stalwart of the Democratic Party (DP), has defected to the new party, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
Bayigga’s defection follows a seemingly irreparable rift during the DP National Convention in Mbarara last month at which his attempt to dislodge the party’s president-general Norbert Mao came short in a chaotic poll.
For two consecutive terms, he has unsuccessfully attempted to take over the leadership of Uganda’s oldest political party.
His signing could prove to be a landmark moment for the People’s Front for Freedom, especially as they prepare for their highly anticipated delegates’ conference set for tomorrow.
The official announcement is expected within the next few hours, following a closed-door meeting with PFF’s top acting leadership.
