Africa-Press – Uganda. Brig Gen Henry Isoke, head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), has called on young people to uphold integrity and reject corruption as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.

Speaking during the launch of the second Twende Zetu Butiama Pilgrimage Safari at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Brig Gen Isoke described the pilgrimage as a “journey of conscience” that rekindles values of selflessness, sacrifice, Pan-Africanism, and unity espoused by Nyerere and other African independence icons.

Organized by Afrika Mashariki Fest (AMF), the youth-led safari celebrates Nyerere’s contribution to African liberation and marks 25 years since the revival of the East African Community (EAC). The event drew dignitaries and young leaders from across the region.

Brig Gen Isoke praised AMF CEO Dr Ronex Kisembo and his team for promoting regional integration and the Kiswahili language, describing the initiative as timely and symbolic.

“The Twende Zetu Butiama Safari is more than a trip; it is a pilgrimage of conscience that reminds us of Mwalimu Nyerere’s incorruptible legacy,” he said. “It calls upon us, especially the youth, to embrace integrity, selflessness, and service to our communities.”

He also urged Ugandans to honor Nyerere by rejecting corruption and upholding the moral values he championed, noting that corruption undermines progress and unity.

Highlighting Uganda’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts, Brig Gen Isoke cited strong political backing from President Museveni and revealed that SH-ACU is working closely with agencies such as the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), intelligence services, and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) to fast-track corruption cases.

Brig Gen Isoke also prayed for the late Nyerere’s family and the ongoing cause for his beatification, saying his life of “servant leadership” remains a beacon for Africa. He further commended President Museveni for championing values similar to those of Nyerere, especially in servant leadership and Pan-African solidarity.

In his closing remarks, Brig Gen Isoke challenged Uganda’s youth to remain vigilant and renew their commitment to integrity.

“Every generation must renew the fight for Africa’s soul by demanding accountability and rejecting corruption,” he stressed.

The launch was also attended by Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Amb. Maj Gen Paul Kisesa Simuli, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Amb. Joash Maangi, and Prof. Mellau Lesakit Sipira Bernard, Vice Chancellor of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology in Butiama.
