Africa-Press – Uganda. Francis Lorika Adome has emerged victorious in the hotly contested NRM primaries for the Moroto Municipality MP seat, securing the party flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Adome polled 2,129 votes, defeating his closest rival Fred Angella, who garnered 1,529 votes. Other contenders, Pulkol Esther Angella Lochomin and Nate Rose Mary Lucuku, received 49 and 9 votes respectively.

The election, which drew significant public interest, was marred by tension and scattered clashes between rival supporters during campaign rallies. Despite the friction, the voting and tallying process concluded without any disruptions, with results declared at the district tally center in Moroto.

Speaking after his victory, Adome thanked God and the people of Moroto for the trust they placed in him.

“I thank God and the people of Moroto Municipality for believing in me. The people have spoken, and I am ready to serve them with humility and commitment,” he told this publication.

The election comes on the heels of earlier chaos in Moroto town, where complaints of missing names on the register and campaign-related confrontations prompted heavy police deployment. However, the conclusion of the primaries has brought a sense of closure to what many described as a heated but democratic process.

Adome will now carry the NRM flag into the general election, facing contenders from other political parties in a race that will determine the next Member of Parliament for Moroto Municipality.
