Africa-Press – Uganda. Esther Ndyanabo, the former Member of Parliament and Mayor of Mityana Municipality, has secured the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag for the Mityana Municipality parliamentary seat after trouncing her rivals in the party’s primary elections.

According to official results announced by Faith Tumwebaze, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission in Mityana, Ndyanabo polled 5,078 votes—an overwhelming 82% of the total ballots cast.

Her closest challenger, Yasin Ndidde, garnered 1,085 votes (18%), while Gabriel Mpoza received just 21 votes, amounting to less than 1%.

Speaking shortly after declaring the results at the Mityana tally centre, Tumwebaze praised the peaceful and orderly nature of the vote and lauded party supporters for turning up despite earlier concerns over low turnout.

In her victory speech, Ndyanabo thanked her supporters and extended an olive branch to her opponents.

“I am humbled by the trust the people of Mityana Municipality have placed in me once again,” she said. “I pledge to work closely with all party members, including my former competitors, to deliver victory for the NRM in the general elections.”

Ndyanabo’s resounding win marks a major political comeback. Having previously served as Mityana Municipality MP, her return to the NRM frontline puts her in a strong position to reclaim the constituency for the ruling party.

Mityana Municipality is considered a strategic battleground for the NRM, and Ndyanabo’s nomination will be closely watched as the party positions itself ahead of the 2026 general elections.
