Africa-Press – Uganda. Nyanzi Vincent Makumbi, the former Member of Parliament for Busujju Constituency, has reclaimed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag after a tightly contested primary election, positioning himself for a fresh bid to return to Parliament in the 2026 general elections.
According to results announced by the NRM Electoral Commission, Makumbi garnered 5,628 votes, representing 59% of the total votes cast.
He was followed closely by Kalyesubula Nuuh, who received 3,767 votes (39%). Saul Kalwanga Nyakana came in a distant third with just 174 votes (2%).
The Busujju primary drew wide attention within Mityana District, given the constituency’s political significance and Makumbi’s previous tenure as MP.
His victory signals a determined comeback and renewed support within the NRM grassroots.
Having secured the party ticket, Makumbi is expected to mount a serious challenge to reclaim the seat currently held by the opposition in a constituency that has seen fluctuating party allegiances in recent election cycles.
Makumbi’s return to the political frontline now places him at the center of the NRM’s efforts to recapture Busujju, a key battleground in the 2026 polls.
