Katikkiro Mayiga Urges Baganda to Pray for Kabaka

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called upon all Baganda to intensify their prayers for the Kabaka and to actively participate in the preparations for his 32nd coronation anniversary slated for July 31st, 2025.

Katikkiro Mayiga made the remarks while addressing over 170 sub-counties chiefs during a strategic leadership and service delivery meeting held at Muganzilwazza Katwe. The meeting was convened to strengthen grassroots leadership and reinforce the Kingdom’s efforts to foster community development ahead of the coronation celebrations.

“We are approaching the Kabaka’s 32nd coronation anniversary. I urge all Baganda to pray for the Kabaka and to be fully involved in the events and preparations,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro emphasised the vital role of Gombolola chiefs as custodians of the Kingdom’s values and as key agents of development. He tasked them with educating their communities about the significance of the Kabaka’s reign and inspiring unity, responsibility, and economic resilience at the local level.

“Let us guide the people. Let us inspire them to work, to avoid substance abuse, and to take responsibility in building their communities,” he added.

Katikkiro Mayiga also encouraged the chiefs to champion agriculture and poverty eradication efforts, which he said are crucial in restoring Buganda’s socio-economic strength and pride. He urged them to support youth empowerment programs and ensure that government and kingdom initiatives reach even the most remote households.

Joining him at the meeting, the Minister for Local Governments and Diaspora Affairs in the Buganda Kingdom, Joseph Kawuki, reinforced the Katikkiro’s message and called on the chiefs to remain committed to their mandates.

“We must take the lead in transforming our communities and helping those most affected by poverty and social challenges,” Owek. Kawuki said.

He added that the strength of the Kingdom lies in its ability to mobilise, organise, and empower its people — starting at the village and sub-county levels.

Several Gombolola chiefs who spoke to journalists after the meeting expressed gratitude for the guidance received and pledged their unwavering commitment to the Kingdom’s vision.

“We are ready to implement the directives of the Katikkiro. We shall engage our people and ensure that the coronation is not only successful but also sparks renewed energy in service delivery,” said one of the chiefs.

As the countdown to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 32nd coronation anniversary continues, the Kingdom has lined up a series of community outreach, health, cultural, and development activities across Buganda to mark the occasion.

The celebrations are expected to attract thousands of subjects, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across the country and the diaspora.
