Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi has completed a move to English side Carlisle United, signing a two-year contract subject to international clearance.
The 30-year-old centre-back joins the National League club after a brief spell in Cyprus with Anorthosis Famagusta, where he made 17 appearances and scored twice.
Carlisle United announced the signing on Saturday through an official statement on their website.
“Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Bevis Mugabi on a two-year deal,” the statement read.
Born in England, Mugabi chose to represent Uganda at international level and has earned 20 caps for the Cranes, scoring once. He is known for his physicality, aerial strength, and leadership at the back.
Mugabi came through the youth academies of Fulham and Southampton before securing his first professional deal with Yeovil Town in 2016.
He went on to make 102 appearances for the Glovers, scoring five goals during his three-year stay.
In 2019, Mugabi signed with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, where he became a defensive mainstay over five seasons.
He featured in 125 matches and netted seven goals, gaining a reputation for consistent performances and resilience.
Carlisle United’s Head of Recruitment, Martin Foyle, welcomed the addition of the seasoned defender.
“Bevis is an experienced defender and an excellent addition to the squad,” Foyle said. “He brings a wealth of experience from Scotland, abroad, and international football.
His fantastic attitude will help drive standards on and off the pitch.”
Mugabi’s signing is seen as a significant boost to Carlisle’s backline as the club looks to bounce back up the English football pyramid following relegation from League Two.
He becomes the latest addition to Carlisle’s squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 National League campaign.
