Africa-Press – Uganda. MTN MoMo Uganda has launched its “Power to Be More” campaign in Soroti City, marking another major step in the company’s push to expand digital financial access across the country.
The campaign aims to empower individuals and small businesses with mobile-based financial tools, bringing Eastern Uganda into the fold of a nationwide initiative.
The Soroti rollout follows similar launches in Kampala, Masaka, and Mbarara, and is part of MTN’s broader ambition to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment through mobile technology.
“MoMo has made it easier to run my shop,” said Sara Akurut, a local vendor in Soroti. “I can now save money, restock, and pay my suppliers from my phone. It’s safe, fast, and helps me grow.”
Allan Njagala, MTN Uganda’s Head of Commercial for the Eastern Region, told attendees that the campaign is not merely promotional—it’s strategic.
“This is more than a brand campaign; it’s a financial empowerment strategy. In Eastern Uganda, we’re seeing more traders, farmers, and youth turning to MoMo to manage money, build resilience, and access growth opportunities. That is the Power to Be More,” Njagala said.
MTN MoMo’s “Power to Be More” campaign showcases a full suite of mobile financial services tailored to Uganda’s fast-evolving economy.
These include:
MoMo Advance – Micro-loans designed for short-term credit needs
MoMo Yinvesta – A digital savings and investment platform
Cover by MoMo – Microinsurance for health, life, and property
Market by MoMo – An online marketplace enabling small business visibility
Pay with MoMo – A contactless mobile payment solution
The Soroti launch also supports MTN Group’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which prioritizes fintech innovation, digital service expansion, and infrastructure development across Africa.
With over 13 million users in Uganda, MTN MoMo is scaling up its regional outreach to target underserved populations—particularly women, youth, and informal sector workers.
The campaign includes educational drives on digital financial literacy and enhanced cybersecurity measures to boost trust in the platform.
“This is aligned with Uganda’s National Development Plan III and Vision 2040,” said Njagala. “Digital inclusion is a key enabler of inclusive growth. By extending these services to every corner of Uganda, we are laying a foundation for equitable socio-economic development.”
The Soroti activation is part of a larger calendar of regional engagements, with similar events expected to roll out across Northern Uganda in the coming weeks.
MTN says the ultimate objective is to ensure that no Ugandan is excluded from the benefits of a digitally powered economy.
