Foreign Affairs Minister Receives Credentials from WFP Director

Africa-Press – Uganda. Gen Odongo Jeje Abubakar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has received copies of the letters of credence from Ms. Lauren Landis, the newly appointed Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Uganda.

The credential ceremony was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kampala, marking the official start of Ms. Landis’ diplomatic engagement in Uganda.

Prior to this appointment, she served as WFP Country Director in Kenya and has held several senior positions across the United Nations system.

In his remarks, Minister Odongo commended the World Food Programme for its continued support to vulnerable communities in Uganda, particularly in the northern region, where WFP has consistently provided life-saving food assistance during times of crisis.

He reaffirmed the Government of Uganda’s strong partnership with WFP and pledged continued collaboration to advance the agency’s humanitarian and development goals.

Ms. Landis, in turn, expressed gratitude for Uganda’s hospitality and its internationally recognized refugee response model.

She praised Uganda’s progressive refugee policy, under which refugees are granted access to land, education, and healthcare—an approach that strengthens family units and promotes self-reliance.

“I look forward to deepening cooperation between WFP and the Government of Uganda during my tenure,” she said.
