Africa-Press – Uganda. Huawei Technologies Uganda has officially launched the 2025–2026 Huawei ICT Competition, a nationwide initiative aimed at developing local technology talent and strengthening the link between academia and industry.
The launch, held at State House Nakasero, was officiated by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni.
The competition, themed “Connection, Glory, Future” and carrying the slogan “I. C. The Future”, is part of Huawei’s global program to inspire young people to excel in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and 5G.
It will engage universities, training institutions, and tech enthusiasts across Uganda, with top performers advancing to regional and global finals.
This year’s launch also recognized Ugandan students from Gulu University, Muni University, Kabale University, and Cavendish University, who recently won second place in the Cloud Track and Innovation Track at the 2024–2025 global finals in Shenzhen, China.
Former participant Michelle Kapsanduy Chemutai was celebrated as the first female African instructor to earn the prestigious Huawei Certified ICT Expert (HCIE) certification in Internet Networks.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady commended the students’ determination and thanked Huawei and the People’s Republic of China for their partnership in advancing Uganda’s ICT capacity.
The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong, praised Huawei for its role in bridging Uganda’s digital skills gap through programs such as the Digitruck, Seeds for the Future, and Huawei ICT Academy.
According to officials, the competition offers benefits including sponsored training in emerging technologies, opportunities for globally recognized Huawei certifications, exposure to real-world ICT projects, and pathways to internships and jobs in the technology sector.
National winners will represent Uganda at the African regional competition in South Africa, and the global finals in Shenzhen, China, in May 2026.
