The denial follows a media report, citing US government documents, that the Trump administration reached deportation deals with Uganda as part of a larger effort to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
The agreements would reportedly reroute asylum seekers to “third countries,” including South Sudan and Eswatini, if the US deemed the country capable of fairly hearing their claims, a provision under US immigration law.
