Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda Bureau of Statisticc Executive Director and the country’s Chief Statistician, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, has urged national statistics offices in the region to prioritize data security and disaster recovery measures to safeguard critical information.

Dr. Mukiza made the call this morning while presenting at the 4th Session of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Statistics Committee meeting in Mombasa, Kenya.

The high-level meeting is reviewing progress in implementing the IGAD Regional Strategy for Development Statistics, exploring ways to strengthen the IGAD Regional Statistics System, and discussing mechanisms to ensure the long-term sustainability of statistical activities across member states.

Highlighting data loss as one of the top risks faced by national statistics offices, Dr. Mukiza stressed the importance of establishing data backup and disaster recovery centres as a safeguard against potential disruptions.
