NRM Tribunal Concludes 431 MP Petitions, Moves to Local Council Cases

Africa-Press – Uganda. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Election Disputes Tribunal has completed rulings on all 431 parliamentary petitions arising from the party’s 2025 primaries.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 26, Tribunal Chairperson John Musiime said the panel had worked “relentlessly, often late into the night” over the past 29 days to deliver the decisions within record time.

The Tribunal began hearings on July 29, 2025, with a mandate to resolve electoral disputes from the NRM primaries. All parliamentary petitions were determined within 28 days.

On August 12, the body shifted its attention to petitions concerning District and City Council Chairpersons and Councilors.

Of the 182 cases filed in this category, 156 have already been resolved, with the rest expected to be concluded soon.

The Tribunal is now moving on to petitions from Sub-County Chairperson and Councilor races.

“The Tribunal reaffirms its commitment to timely, fair, and final decisions that safeguard the genuine will of NRM members and strengthen internal democracy within the Party,” Musiime said.

The Tribunal also expressed gratitude to NRM Chairman and President Museveni for entrusting it with the role, and to the Director of Legal Services Enoch Barata, Tribunal members, registry staff, and support teams for their dedication, noting that the workload had taken a toll, with some colleagues falling ill during the process.
