Africa-Press – Uganda. The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as its presidential flagbearer for the 2026 general elections, extending his decades-long grip on the party and the state.
The endorsement was made at the opening of the NRM national delegates conference held at Kololo Independence Grounds, where delegates unanimously backed Museveni. The conference, which later continued at Namboole Stadium, also confirmed him as the party’s national chairman.
During the Kololo function, Museveni was accompanied by the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni. The delegates further endorsed Al Hajji Moses Kigongo as the NRM’s first vice chairperson.
With this endorsement, Museveni—who has been in power since 1986 and previously secured constitutional amendments to remove both term limits (2005) and the presidential age cap (2017)—is now the NRM’s official presidential candidate, pending formal nomination by the Electoral Commission.
