Africa-Press – Uganda. Patience Atuhairwe a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has announced her intention to contest for the Kamwenge District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections.
Atuherwe said she is awaiting her party card before proceeding to pick nomination forms.
“I am aspiring unopposed to get the NUP ticket for Kamwenge District Woman MP. Once I receive the party card, I will immediately pick nomination forms and share my manifesto with the people of Kamwenge,” she said.
Atuheirwe urged the electorate not to be intimidated but to embrace change in leadership.
“I ask the people of Kamwenge to stop fearing the intimidation from the current government and support me to change the leadership system of poor service delivery. One of my core roles as an MP will be to represent and advocate for better services for my people,” she emphasized.
Atuheirwe made the remarks while accompanying Vincent Ariganyira, who was duly nominated as NUP’s candidate for district councilor in Ntonwa Sub County.
After his nomination, Ariganyira explained his decision to abandon the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“I boycotted NRM because it failed to utilize the available resources to benefit the general public and to boost health, education, and other infrastructure development,” Ariganyira said.
Other candidates nominated for district council positions include Kiiza Anthony Ngazwire, who will contest as an independent for Kabuga Town Council, and Tugume Siriva, nominated on the NRM ticket for Rukunyu Town Council. Both appealed for support from their respective communities to ensure continuity of development initiatives.
