Africa-Press – Uganda. Uganda and Venezuela have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with both nations pledging closer cooperation in political, economic, and multilateral spheres.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeje Odongo, on Tuesday received Fatima Fernandes Juarez, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
Odongo welcomed the Venezuelan delegation and commended the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Juarez expressed her gratitude for the continued warm reception since her arrival in Uganda earlier this year, saying the country “truly feels like home.”
During the meeting, Ambassador Juarez delivered an official invitation from Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, inviting Odongo to serve as a speaker at the International Forum on Colonialism, Neocolonialism and their Consequences, scheduled to take place in Caracas on October 2–3, 2025.
The forum, themed “For Truth and Historical Justice!”, aims to explore the enduring impact of colonialism and its modern-day equivalents, such as economic neocolonialism, territorial disputes, financial domination, and global calls for reparations.
In a significant development, Ambassador Juarez also proposed the creation of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between Uganda and Venezuela. Initial discussions for the establishment of the commission are expected to be held in March 2026.
In response, Minister Odongo welcomed the invitation and expressed Uganda’s readiness to deepen its engagement with Venezuela. He reaffirmed Uganda’s solidarity with the people of Venezuela and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts within international platforms.
The two sides concluded the meeting by reiterating their shared commitment to peace, justice, and sustainable development, and pledged to enhance cooperation grounded in mutual respect and friendship.
