Authorities Assure Security for NRM Youth Elections

Africa-Press – Uganda. As the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth in Mityana prepare to elect their representative to the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) this Thursday, district authorities have pledged a peaceful, transparent, and well-secured electoral process.

Mityana Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Prossy Mwanjuzi, told Nbs that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place to address any potential disruptions. She noted that youth elections are often highly charged, with emotions running high, but emphasised that this year’s exercise will be handled with utmost vigilance.

“We know youth elections can sometimes get rowdy, but we are fully prepared. Security has been tightened across all polling stations to ensure that voting is conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner,” Mwanjuzi noted.

She added that security agencies are working closely with the Electoral Commission and NRM leadership in the district to ensure the process runs smoothly.“Every stakeholder has a role to play in ensuring this exercise is successful. We want the young people to freely choose their representative without fear, intimidation, or violence,” Mwanjuzi added.

The youth vote is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the party’s structures, given that CEC is NRM’s top decision-making organ. Contestants across different districts will be battling for a chance to represent their peers at the national level, making the elections highly competitive.

Local youth leaders in Mityana have also welcomed the assurances, urging their colleagues to embrace peace and unity during the process.Observers note that how well these elections are managed will not only reflect on the credibility of NRM’s internal processes but also send a strong message about the role of youth in shaping the future of the party.
