Youth Elections Begin in Kampala with Digital Tally System

Africa-Press – Uganda. Youth elections have officially begun across Kampala, with delegates gathering at polling stations ahead of voting.

At All Saints Nakasero, one of the polling stations for Central Division, Electoral Commission (EC) officials started by verifying the delegates eligible to participate in today’s election.

Only 12 delegates are expected to vote at All Saints. These include four sub-county youth chairpersons, five district youth leaders, two division-level youth councilors, and one youth councilor at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) level. Each division in Kampala is treated as a district for NRM electoral purposes, meaning the city has five districts in total.

The NRM Electoral Commission has said that final results from all districts will be transmitted digitally to the national tally center, which has been set up at the EC offices.

“Each district registrar will take a screenshot of the declaration form at the district, stamp it, and send it digitally,” said the NRM EC Vice Chairperson.

“We will make use of WhatsApp and email to send in these screenshots. They will be verified and displayed on screens at the tally center.”

Voting is taking place for positions across the National Youth League, Youth MPs, and Entrepreneurs League in all 151 districts that make up the NRM party.

Each candidate is allowed to send only one representative to the national tally center to witness the tallying process and collect the final declaration forms. All agents must present an appointment letter and a copy of their national ID for identification.
