Africa-Press – Uganda. Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), in partnership with the Insurance Training College (ITC), hosted the 8th Hon. John Ssebaana Kizito Memorial Lecture at Hotel Brovad in Masaka, bringing together insurance leaders, business executives, and community stakeholders to celebrate the enduring legacy of Hon. John Ssebaana Kizito — an insurance trailblazer, businessman, and politician.

Themed “Embracing Insurance for Sustainable Development,” this year’s lecture highlighted the critical role of insurance in driving resilience and economic growth. The Chief Guest, Dr. Alhaj Ibrahim Kaddunabbi Lubega, CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda, paid tribute to the late Ssebaana’s pioneering role in establishing Uganda’s first private insurance company.

He also underscored the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting within the industry and reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment to supporting insurance players in aligning with global standards.

A panel discussion featuring Jennifer Mirembe Ssensuwa (CEO, Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Ltd), Zaake Ronald (Managing Director, A-Plus Funeral Services), John Makosya (Chief Operations and Impact Officer, GRO Consortium (U) Ltd), and Joseph Kiyimba (Managing Director, Ambiance Group) explored the importance of insurance, the diversity of insurance products, and the opportunities presented by agro-insurance in strengthening livelihoods.

SWICO reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the vision of its co-founder by fostering innovation, deepening trust, and promoting sustainable insurance solutions for Uganda and beyond.
