Africa-Press – Uganda. All eyes were on Busoga political heavyweights Rebecca Kadaga and Persis Namuganza as they made their way to Kololo on Tuesday, where NRM chairman and presidential flag bearer Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to address his post-nomination rally.
The two leaders, who recently suffered bruising defeats in the party’s Central Executive Committee race and primaries, respectively, have remained in the spotlight as the opposition sought to woo them.
Namuganza, the State Minister for Lands, has been dogged by speculation that she might contest as an independent in Bukono County, Namutumba District.
Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving Busoga political matriarch, has meanwhile sought to project firm loyalty to the ruling party.
At a thanksgiving ceremony last Thursday in Jinja and Kamuli, vowing not to abandon the movement despite political setbacks.
Their joint appearance at Kololo sends a message of solidarity at a time when the NRM seeks to project unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
For many party faithful, the sight of the two women standing shoulder to shoulder has helped cool speculation of looming defections from Busoga, a region critical to NRM’s electoral base.
With Museveni expected to address supporters shortly, the presence of Kadaga and Namuganza underscores the party’s efforts to keep high-profile figures within the fold as it gears up for another bruising election season.
