Mubaje Hails Late Scholar Naseef for Supporting Muslims

Africa-Press – Uganda. The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has paid tribute to the late Dr. Abdallah Omar Naseef, a Saudi scholar and former Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), recognising his key role in rebuilding and strengthening Uganda’s Muslim community in the 1980s and 1990s.

In a statement by the Office of the Mufti, Sheikh Mubaje extended condolences to Dr. Naseef’s family, the Government of Saudi Arabia, and the Muslim World League, praising the deceased as a true champion of Islamic unity and humanitarian service.

Dr. Naseef is remembered for his unwavering support to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) during a period of deep division and recovery following the 1979 war, which devastated the Muslim community and left many orphans.

“The late Dr. Naseef stood with the UMSC when the community was struggling to rebuild after conflict and leadership disputes. His generosity and commitment to peace and unity greatly contributed to restoring stability,” Mubaje said.

He noted that Dr. Naseef’s legacy includes building schools and mosques, providing scholarships, and supporting clean water projects and Islamic education initiatives across Uganda.

To honor his memory, Sheikh Mubaje directed the Office of Religious Affairs to hold special prayers for the late scholar at the National Mosque, UMSC Headquarters, on Monday, October 13, 2025, immediately after the afternoon prayers.

Dr. Naseef, who led the MWL an international Islamic charitable organisation based in Saudi Arabia was widely respected for advancing global Muslim solidarity and humanitarian development.
