The Orthodox Christians who congregate at St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Namungoona, did not have Christmas prayers.
Their Cathedral was locked up during the week on the orders of the Metropolitan Archbishop, His Eminence Jonah Lwanga.
The Prelate’s order to close the Cathedral followed the death from Covid-19 of Fr Emmanuel Ssekyewa (71), who performed roles at the church.According to the parish priest, Rev Fr Nicholas Bayego, the cathedral will be opened in the next couple of weeks.
After the closure of the cathedral, the Christians were advised to pray from other churches, or in their homes.The Cathedral on Christmas Day was fully locked-up. The cathedral’s compound was also silently vacant, without any sign of activity.
St Sophia Orthodox Church, Kibuye, where the deceased ministered as the curate, was also closed.
