PFF in Ntungamo Prepares for 2026 Elections

Africa-Press – Uganda. The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Ntungamo District is intensifying preparations for the nomination of parliamentary candidates across all constituencies ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Party officials say they are finalising internal negotiations in areas such as Kajara and Rushenyi, where multiple aspirants had expressed interest in contesting under the same party banner.

Nazarious Ahimbisibwe, PFF District Coordinator for Ntungamo, said the party is making steady progress despite challenges typical for a newly formed political entity.

“We are preparing our parliamentary candidates. Being a new political party, it’s not easy, but we are ready,” Ahimbisibwe said.

“We have candidates like Venansius Ahabwe in Kajara and Hillary Ampereza in the municipality. We are still finalizing candidates for Rushenyi and Ruhama East.”

Ahimbisibwe added that while consensus has been reached in most constituencies, discussions remain ongoing in a few areas.

“In Kajara, we had many aspirants, but by consensus some have stepped aside, leaving Venansius. Rushenyi negotiations will conclude before nominations begin,” he explained.

Financial constraints remain a significant challenge for the opposition.

“Finance has always been a problem for us. We are contesting with those in power, but we try our level best to support our candidates and run party activities,” Ahimbisibwe said.

PFF recently formed an alliance with the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and is working to raise awareness about the partnership, particularly promoting ANT presidential candidate Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

“Many people were not aware of the alliance with ANT. We are informing and engaging them,” he noted.

Despite Ntungamo being considered a National Resistance Movement stronghold, PFF officials remain optimistic that growing party structures and collaboration with ANT will help the opposition make a stronger showing in the upcoming elections.
