Africa-Press – Uganda. The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has pledged to mobilize overwhelming support for National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman and Presidental flag bearer Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the Greater Kigezi sub-region ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking during a gathering of Bafumbira youth in Kampala on Sunday, PLU Women’s Coordinator for the Kigezi Sub-region Grace Mugabirwe Mutebile, affirmed the organization’s commitment to President Museveni’s continued leadership, noting his decades of contribution to the country.
“Museveni has set the bar of presidency so high. PLU is not a political party; we are a civic organization. We are beginning to come to ground to explain these things. He has been a wonderful president for the past 40 years. NRM is a party that ensures that everybody is a beneficiary of this government,” Mutebile said.
Mutebile expressed confidence that the region would deliver a strong mandate, stating the PLU’s intention to secure 80 percent and above of votes in Greater Kigezi.
“We want Museveni to get 80% and above in Greater Kigezi so that we continue protecting the gains,” she said, adding that in the future, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba could play a role in continuing to safeguard the country’s progress.
Mutebile encouraged young people to remain patriotic and focused.
“It is you, the youth, that can protect the future of this country. Love your country,” she said.
The event also marked the launch of the Bafumbira Youth Community Development SACCO, where Mugabirwe contributed Shs 1 million to support youth empowerment initiatives.
“This is not government money. This is our money. We are just giving back to you, the youth,” she said.
Mutebile urged youth to prioritize productive economic activities and make use of the SACCO to better their livelihoods.
“With this SACCO, borrow the money so that it can benefit you. People without money are the ones who are usually tempted to go to the streets to throw stones. Get involved in things that add value to yourself,” she said.
Encouraging electoral participation, she called on Bafumbira youth living in Kampala to return home and cast their ballots in the 2026 elections.
The PLU’s engagement in the region forms part of its “UMOJA WETU” campaign, aimed at strengthening unity and development.
Also speaking at the event, Bufumbira North MP aspirant, Gabare Fortunate Habyara, encouraged the youth to take advantage of the SACCO to save, create opportunities, and fully participate in the economy. Habyara contributed Shs 500,000 toward the initiative and conveyed a message of support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, noting the youth’s commitment to strengthening the Movement.
The Chairman of the SACCO, Niyoonzima Venat, assured attendees that the funds would be managed efficiently and used to support youth-focused development efforts.
