Africa-Press – Uganda. The Minister of Public Service, Wilson Muruli Mukasa, has urged residents of Nakasongola District to shun divisive politics based on tribe and instead foster unity and cooperation to drive local development.
Speaking to veterans and local leaders, Muruli Mukasa highlighted that Uganda’s liberation struggle in the 1980s succeeded because people from different tribes united for a common goal of peace and progress.
He noted that Nakasongola is home to diverse communities, including Baruuli, Baganda, Banyoro, Rwandese, and others, who have historically coexisted peacefully, warning against letting tribal sentiments influence leadership decisions during elections.
“Nakasongola has many tribes, and we are living peacefully. Why then should we bring tribal issues into leadership?” Muruli questioned.
He encouraged residents to vote for candidates under the NRM banner, noting that the party selects capable leaders committed to service delivery and poverty eradication through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).
State Minister for Luweero Triangle, Alice Kaboyo, also urged elders to guide youth and highlight the NRM government’s achievements.
She cautioned against violent calls for change, emphasizing that real progress comes through development, not chaos.
District leaders were encouraged to strengthen NRM’s support base to maintain Nakasongola as a key stronghold in the greater Luweero region.
