Africa-Press – Uganda. The Chief of Defence Forces of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), Maj Gen Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, has hailed the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for their continued sacrifice and commitment to restoring peace and stability in Somalia.
Speaking to UPDF troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) at the 6th SNAF Brigade Headquarters in Barawe Sector, Maj Gen Odowaa commended the Ugandan soldiers for their professionalism and dedication.
“I want to thank you for the sacrifice you have made for the people of Somalia. You have given our soldiers great morale to defend their country,” he said.
Maj Gen Odowaa extended appreciation to President Museveni and the Government of Uganda for their unwavering support to the Federal Government of Somalia and SNAF in their pursuit of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
He noted that Somalis are grateful for the prevailing peace, which he attributed to the close cooperation between UPDF troops and SNAF forces.
He added that the Somali army has recently intensified civil–military cooperation activities to strengthen relations with local communities.
On behalf of Battle Group 45 Commander Col Justus Musenene, Lt Col Geoffrey Ochan, Commander of the UPDF 145 Battalion, thanked the people of Somalia for their hospitality and cooperation, saying this has enabled AUSSOM forces to carry out their operations effectively.
“We have not encountered any problems with the civilians, and we commend them for their continued cooperation,” Lt Col Ochan said.
He urged Somali soldiers and civilians to embrace patriotism and unity, saying these values are vital in defeating Al-Shabaab and advancing Somalia’s economic transformation.
Lt Col Ochan reaffirmed the UPDF’s continued commitment to supporting the Somali people in their efforts to build a peaceful and stable nation.
The meeting was attended by Maj David Okema, the Battle Group 45 Operations Officer, as well as senior and junior officers from both the UPDF and the Somali National Armed Forces.
