Africa-Press – Uganda. Excel Insurance Uganda, in partnership with Service Cops, has launched a new digital innovation dubbed the Excel WhatsApp Bot—a platform designed to make buying and renewing insurance easier, faster, and more convenient for Ugandans.
The solution enables customers to purchase insurance directly through WhatsApp, make payments using mobile money, and instantly receive a digital insurance sticker, eliminating the need for physical visits, paperwork, or long queues.
Speaking at the launch in Kampala, Paul Muwanga, Managing Director of Excel Insurance Uganda, said the innovation was developed to address the growing demand for digital convenience.
“In partnership with Service Cops, we have launched a WhatsApp BOT that enables people to buy insurance from the comfort of their homes,” Muwanga said.
“We are starting with Motor Third-Party stickers. Imagine being in traffic and realizing your third-party insurance has expired — and within seconds, you can buy a valid sticker on WhatsApp before reaching a checkpoint. That’s how easy it is.”
He emphasized that while the digital platform offers unmatched convenience, traditional service channels will remain available for clients without smartphones.
“We recognize that not everyone has access to smartphones, so we’ll continue to support traditional methods as people gradually adapt to this innovation,” he added.
The launch comes as the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) transitions the industry from physical to digital motor stickers.
Steven Kaddu Mukasa, Manager Inspection at IRA, applauded the development, calling it “a timely innovation” aligned with the regulator’s digital transformation agenda.
“Allow me to congratulate Excel Insurance and Service Cops for coming up with such a wonderful platform that will improve accessibility, convenience, and efficiency in the way motor third-party insurance is sold,” Kaddu said.
“As of October 1, 2025, we are through with physical stickers. We now deal with digital stickers as an industry. This solution strengthens security and makes insurance accessible both in urban and rural areas.”
He also stressed the need for strict data protection as more services move online.
“It’s imperative that clients’ data is handled securely, and they are informed of their rights,” he noted.
Mathias Kamoga, Managing Director of Service Cops, described the partnership as a major milestone in making insurance services more inclusive and efficient.
“Excel has been our partner for years, and together we’ve built a secure, user-friendly solution,” Kamoga said.
“With about 9.2 million Ugandans using WhatsApp, leveraging it as a service channel ensures customers can easily access Excel’s products, pay instantly, and receive their digital sticker within about 30 seconds.”
He added that the system validates vehicles before issuing stickers and employs industry-standard mobile money security protocols.
“It’s a simple, secure, real-time solution built to global standards,” he said.
Officials noted that the innovation is expected to broaden insurance access, improve compliance, and enhance efficiency across Uganda’s insurance industry.
