Africa-Press – Uganda. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Uganda Chapter has officially launched the 2025 International Fraud Awareness Week.
Running from November 17 to 21 2025, Uganda will join the global movement to raise awareness about fraud, promote integrity, and strengthen the fight against economic crime.
Speaking at the launch, ACFE Uganda Chapter president Mr. George Turyamureba Mugabi reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advancing transparency and accountability across both public and private institutions.
“Fraud remains a major challenge undermining economic growth and public trust. This week is a reminder that fighting fraud is a shared responsibility. Together — as professionals, institutions, and citizens — we can make Uganda more transparent and accountable,” Mugabi said.
The ACFE, founded in 1988 in the United States, is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization, with more than 90,000 global members dedicated to combating white-collar crime through research, certification, and training.
The Uganda Chapter, established in 2008, is a registered affiliate of the global body and currently boasts more than 150 Certified Fraud Examiners.
Its membership spans key government agencies such as the Bank of Uganda, Inspectorate of Government, the Office of the Auditor General, the Financial Intelligence Authority, Uganda Revenue Authority, and KCCA, alongside major private-sector institutions including banks and telecommunications companies.
The local chapter offers continuous professional development through specialized training, workshops, webinars, and sensitization initiatives designed to strengthen ethical practice, fraud risk management, and governance across institutions.
The Fraud Awareness Week 2025
According to officials, throughout the week, ACFE Uganda will conduct public awareness drives, stakeholder meetings, and expert-led discussions on emerging fraud trends. These activities are aimed at equipping organizations and citizens with practical tools to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud.
The campaign will culminate in the 3rd Regional Fraud Conference, slated for 20th–21st November 2025 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.The conference will be held under the theme: “Safeguarding Integrity in the Virtual World – Responding to Deepfakes and Insider Threat-Driven Fraud.”
The forum will bring together regional and international keynote speakers, anti-corruption experts, the legal fraternity, financial institutions, telecoms, professional bodies, and law enforcement agencies.
Discussions will spotlight emerging digital threats, case studies, and innovative preventive tools relevant to both public and private sectors.
