Africa-Press – Uganda. Two people have been confirmed dead in a motor accident that happened on Thursday night at Mawoto Village, Najja Sub County along Katosi-Nyenga Road.
According to the Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto, the ill-fated vehicle Reg. No. UAP 313R which had four occupants onboard, lost control killing two on spot.
Ms Butoto identified the deceased as Timothy Katabira, a resident of Nkokonjeru Town Council who was the driver of the vehicle, and Ms Winnie Nakyotiba, a resident of Najja Village, Najja Sub County in Buikwe District.
“This accident was a result of speeding. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. It is regrettable that we have lost people,” she said.
Ever since Mukono-Katosi-Nyenga-Njeru Road was tarmacked, it has become too busy and many buses and other motorists use it to dodge the menacing traffic gridlock on the Kampala-Mukono-Jinja highway.
Mr Rogers Waswa, a boda-boda rider said because the road is still new and smooth, and most motorists drive recklessly thus causing accidents.
“There is a need to deploy traffic officers on the road to check errant motorists along this entire stretch other than concentrating on trading centres,” he said.
However, Ms Butoto said traffic police officers are always on the road doing their work.
