TRANSPORT |MV Kalangala has mitigated the influx of passengers yarning for safe means of transport to and from Kalangala islands via Entebbe.The ministry of works and transport cleared the operator of the vessel to increase the number of round trips but under strict supervision.The vessel normally plies only one round trip leaving Lutoboka landing site in Kalangala in the morning reaching Nakiwogo landing site in Entebbe at around 11:00 am and departs at 2:00 pm and arrives Kalangala around 5:00 pm.However, in the new arrangement for the festive season, the vessel departs Lutoboka landing site in Kalangala at around 7: 30 in the morning, arrives Nakiwogo landing site in Entebbe at around 11:00 am. The vessel then departs Nakiwogo to Kalangala at 11:00 am and arrives Kalanagala at around 3:00 pm where it departs at 3: 30 pm and arrives Nakiwogo around 7:00 pm.According, the ministry of transport’s spokesperson to Suzan Kataike, the arrangement that started on December 20, is expected to end on January 4, 2021.However, the transport fares have remained at sh10,000 and sh14,000 respectively despite the reduction in the number of passengers carried following the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The public including tourists has continued accessing Kalangala with ease including the route via Masaka through Bukakata landing with two alternating ferries operated by Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS) free of charge.
