Africa-Press – Uganda. MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have rolled out enhanced digital tax and government payment services on the MTN MoMo platform, allowing taxpayers to access more URA services conveniently through the shortcode 16518#.
The upgraded service, officially launched on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, is now live nationwide and is designed to improve the taxpayer journey by offering faster, simpler and more secure ways to meet tax obligations using a mobile phone.
The enhanced URA menu expands the range of tax and government payments available on MTN MoMo, reducing the need for physical visits to URA offices or banks.
According to the two institutions, the solution is expected to ease compliance, save time for individuals and businesses, and reduce congestion at service points.
MTN MoMo Managing Director Richard Yego said the improvements reflect the company’s continued role as a key digital payments partner for government services.
“MTN MoMo continues to play a critical role in enabling secure, accessible and efficient digital payments across Uganda. By enhancing URA services on 16518#, we are making it easier for individuals and businesses to meet their tax obligations anytime, anywhere,” Yego said.
“This partnership demonstrates our commitment to supporting national development through practical and customer-centric digital solutions.”
URA Commissioner General John Musinguzi Rujoki said the upgraded platform supports the Authority’s drive to improve voluntary compliance and enhance the taxpayer experience.
“Our goal is to make tax compliance as simple and convenient as possible for all taxpayers. Enhancing URA services on MTN MoMo brings us closer to the people, reduces compliance barriers and supports our broader strategy to digitise tax administration while improving efficiency and transparency,” Musinguzi said.
With millions of active users across the country, MTN MoMo remains one of Uganda’s most widely used digital payment platforms, supporting everyday transactions, financial inclusion and access to public services.
The enhanced URA services further strengthen the integration between government and digital financial systems.
Taxpayers can access the upgraded services by dialing 16518# and following the URA menu prompts.
