Africa-Press – Uganda. FDC presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has criticised the government for what he described as prolonged neglect of road infrastructure in Abim District, saying the poor state of roads is undermining transport, service delivery and economic activity.
Campaigning in the Karamoja Sub-region, Nandala made Abim one of his key stopovers, with infrastructure and security emerging as central themes in his engagement with residents.
He began his visit by attending a church service at Abim Catholic Church, where he received blessings from the parish priest before embarking on campaign activities in the district.
Addressing residents later, Nandala said the deteriorating road network has severely limited access to health services, markets and other essential facilities.
“The condition of roads here is unacceptable,” Nandala said. “When roads are impassable, everything suffers—from service delivery to economic growth. This kind of neglect must come to an end.”
The presidential hopeful also raised concerns over persistent cattle theft in the district, urging the government to compensate residents for livestock lost under what he described as “government watch.”
Nandala further addressed the issue of mineral resources in Karamoja, alleging that powerful individuals are illegally exploiting gold recently discovered in Abim District. He called on communities to remain vigilant and protect their resources.
“Karamoja’s minerals should benefit the people of this region, not a few well-connected individuals,” he said.
Nandala appealed to residents to support his presidential bid, pledging improved road infrastructure, enhanced security and inclusive development if elected.
After addressing supporters in Abim Town, he proceeded to Kiru Town Council, where he concluded his Karamoja campaign engagements. He later travelled to Kapelebyong District in the Teso Sub-region to continue his campaign trail.
