Africa-Press – Uganda. Java House, East Africa’s leading coffee-led restaurant brand has further expanded its footprint in Uganda with a new branch in Naguru.

Officially opened at Shell Naguru, the Java House brand is the 10th in Uganda and 104th in Africa.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Priscilla Gathungu, CEO of Java House said the expansion means more growth of the Ugandan economy.

“For every new restaurant that we open, it alone employs 30 to 40 young Ugandans. We employ right after high school and no degree or training needed as we do our own upskilling. People who started out as dish washers are now managers of restaurants. This means opportunities come with every new restaurant that we open but we also have an entire production unit where we bake our products which also employs Ugandans,” she said.Gathungu said apart from employing Ugandans directly, they also support the entire value chain.

“About 97% of everything we buy in this market is produced in Uganda. That means we are committed not only to the producer but also the manufacturer.”The Java House CEO mentioned coffee, flour for baking, chicken, irish potatoes and many other items that are sourced from the country.

“We are also working with Ugandan creative agencies, story tellers and artists as one of the ways to show we are committed to this market, not only for the consumer but also down the value chain.”

Churchill Ododa, the national sales manager for Biyinzika Poultry International said the expansion is yet another opportunity for the restaurant to support the country’s supply value chain.

“This is good for everyone. For the nation it provides employment opportunities but for suppliers like us, it means business increases,” Ododa said.

During the same function, Java House Uganda launched its own delivery service where customers can tap into their online portal and the restaurant will deliver meals directly without middlemen.

The opening of the Naguru branch marks a significant milestone in the company’s 27-year journey, which began with a single coffee shop in Nairobi in 1999.

Today, Java House is a household name across Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, serving millions of customers through its network of restaurants and express outlets.
