Africa-Press – Uganda. The Nnabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda Luswata, has called on parents to intentionally raise their children with strong moral values and a deep sense of responsibility that transcends generations.
She made the remarks at Lwemwedde in Busiro during a memorial service held in honour of the late Paul Kayongo Lule and Margaret Faith Lule, parents of Professor Godfrey Lule Nsereko, a renowned medical specialist based at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Addressing mourners, the Nnabagereka emphasized the critical role parents play in shaping the character, discipline and long-term legacy of their children.
“We ought to give our children good examples that they shall emulate when we are gone,” she said, underscoring the importance of leading by example.
Nagginda added that parents must ensure the legacy they leave behind empowers children to act responsibly and uphold values such as love, hard work and care for others.
“As parents, we must take great care to ensure that what we leave behind will enable our children to carry it forward responsibly. They too should do what is right, demonstrating a life not of selfishness, but one characterized by love, hard work, and care for others,” she said.
During her address, the Nnabagereka paid tribute to the late Paul and Margaret Lule, noting that their children’s achievements stand as evidence of the values instilled in them.
“The legacy of the late Paul and Margaret Lule is evident in the lives and achievements of their children. This is a testament to the grace of God that enabled them to fulfill their parental responsibilities with distinction,” she said.
Professor Nsereko, who also runs a medical practice in Kenya, has treated numerous Ugandans seeking specialized healthcare.
The Nnabagereka commended him and his wife for their dedication and compassion in serving patients across borders.
She further urged parents to prioritize moral upbringing at home, noting that the foundation laid within families has a lasting impact on society.
She also encouraged the public to recognize and celebrate individuals who serve diligently while still alive, highlighting the contributions of professionals such as Professor Nsereko.
