Africa-Press – Uganda. A wholesale building at Kikollege Business Center in Kable Municipality was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday afternoon, resulting in significant property loss.
The building, reportedly owned by a businessman identified only as Majugo, housed groceries, stationery, and other goods.
The fire broke out around 1:00 pm, prompting residents and police to respond quickly in an effort to save items that had not yet been consumed by the flames.
Eyewitness Abel Twinamatsiko said he first became aware of the fire while going about his daily activities and heard people shouting that the building was ablaze.
“Despite the intensity of the fire, residents tried their best to rescue some of the remaining property. Police arrived late, after we had already struggled to contain the situation and prevent further damage,” he said.
Other residents, including Agatha Nsimenta and Joshua Niwagaba, said traders suffered heavy losses as most of the goods were destroyed.
“We thank God that no one has died even when lives were at risk during the incident,” they said.
Efforts to obtain comments from police were unsuccessful. By press time, residents were still at the scene attempting to secure the remaining property.
