Africa-Press – Uganda. Kampala’s creative scene came alive as the Guinness Smooth Creators Lab transformed Paradigm into a vibrant space for music, learning, and networking.
The event offered more than nightlife—it created an interactive platform where talent met opportunity and education merged with performance.
At the centre of the night was renowned Ugandan producer Axon, who led an immersive music production masterclass for artists, producers, and industry hopefuls.
He combined technical expertise, business insight, and personal experience to provide a roadmap for building sustainable careers in Uganda’s growing music industry.
Axon broke down music production, distribution, and publishing, explaining how songs featured in films or documentaries become publishing assets benefiting both songwriters and producers.
He encouraged creatives to register with publishing and collecting societies such as Sentric Music and BMI to safeguard their work and unlock long-term income.
Beyond technical lessons, Axon emphasised that talent alone is not enough. Education, structure, collaboration, and intentionality are essential.
He urged producers to treat music as a business, formalise agreements around royalties and publishing, and uphold professionalism and dedication.
“Music is more than talent and vibes; it’s education, structure, and intention. If we want Ugandan music to travel the world, we must understand the business, protect our work, collaborate properly, and build systems that allow our creativity to live beyond the studio,” he said.
Axon also addressed ethics, condemning exploitation and warning female creatives against environments that compromise dignity.
He shared his personal journey of producing exportable music with global relevance, highlighting the importance of vision and focus over short-term trends.
The masterclass concluded with performances by Viana Indi, DJ Dash, and DJ Jose, blending education with entertainment and reflecting Kampala’s dynamic creative spirit.
Guinness Smooth Brand Manager Denise Nazzinda said, “The Creators Lab is about more than experiences; it’s about empowerment. We are creating platforms where creativity meets opportunity, where young people build real futures from their talent.”
The Guinness Smooth Creators Lab continues to provide practical tools and exposure for emerging creatives, taking place biweekly at various venues across Kampala.
