Kitara FC Advances to Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16

Africa-Press – Uganda. Kitara FC have secured a place in the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a 2-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC on Tuesday evening at Royals Park Stadium in Butema.

The match started cautiously, with both sides probing for control in midfield and limiting clear-cut chances. The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when winger Chrispus Asiki delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area. The ball evaded the UPPC defence and fell kindly to George Senkaaba, who slotted home to give Kitara a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

UPPC returned for the second half determined to find an equaliser, but Kitara’s central defensive pairing of Benjamin Nyakoojo and Samuel Kato remained composed, effectively neutralising attacking threats from Ambrose Kigozi and Julius Poloto.

Kitara sealed the win in the 80th minute. Senkaaba turned provider, laying the ball off at the edge of the box for substitute midfielder Alex Emmanuel Wasswa, who unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to double the advantage and confirm progression to the next round.

The result marks Kitara’s third consecutive Stanbic Uganda Cup victory over UPPC. The Royals previously defeated them 2-0 in 2024 at Masindi Stadium and 2-1 in 2025 at Works Stadium in Entebbe.

Coached by Wasswa Bbosa, Kitara become the second side to book a place in the Round of 16, following KCCA FC’s elimination of Mbarara City FC on Sunday.

Kitara are the defending champions, having lifted the 2024 Stanbic Uganda Cup title with a 1-0 victory over NEC FC at Wankulukuku Stadium.

The two sides will meet again next week at Royals Park Stadium, this time in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, in what promises to be another competitive encounter.
