Africa-Press – Uganda. Nateete Muslim High School has awarded cash prizes to its top-performing candidates in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, in a move school leaders say is aimed at motivating learners and sustaining academic excellence.
Outstanding former students each received Shs 500,000 during an academic assembly held on Monday at the school, where administrators emphasised the importance of rewarding performance to inspire continuing learners.
Headteacher Haj Ahmed Bagaala Luyulika said the initiative has become a tradition intended to encourage both high achievers and current students preparing for national examinations.
“We have made it a tradition to reward our candidates who perform with flying colours as an encouragement to the rest of their fellow students,” he said, adding that many learners come from underprivileged backgrounds in surrounding urban communities.
The school also distributed scholastic materials, including books and geometry sets, to disciplined and high-performing students across lower classes, in an effort to promote both academic achievement and good conduct.
School Board of Governors chairperson Haji Muhamood Kateregga Namuguzi commended the administration for improving both infrastructure and academic standards, noting that the school’s progress has contributed to its ranking among the top Muslim-founded schools nationwide.
He said managing a growing student population while maintaining performance standards remains a key challenge for the institution.
Education stakeholders say such incentive-based initiatives are increasingly being adopted by schools to boost performance and retention, particularly in urban settings where many learners face financial constraints.
The outgoing candidates, who addressed the assembly, urged continuing students to remain focused on their studies, describing discipline and effective time management as critical to success in national examinations.
