Africa-Press – Uganda. The Judiciary Council has convened its first meeting of the year—and the third for the Financial Year 2025/2026—at the Supreme Court Conference Hall in Kampala, with proceedings chaired by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija.
The session marked Justice Zeija’s first time presiding over the Council since his appointment as head of the Judiciary and Chairperson of the Council.
In his opening remarks, the Chief Justice expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the meeting, noting the significance of steering his inaugural session in the role. He underscored the importance of the Council in strengthening institutional governance and ensuring the efficient administration of justice.
Justice Zeija also formally welcomed new members to the Council, including Director of Public Prosecutions Lino Anguzu, who joins at a time when the Judiciary is undertaking key policy and administrative reforms.
A major item on the agenda was the deliberation on the draft Judiciary Service Code of Conduct, 2026. Council members reviewed the proposed framework, which is expected to guide ethical standards and professional conduct within the Judiciary.
The Judiciary Council, established under the Administration of the Judiciary Act, 2020, plays an advisory role to the Chief Justice on the administration and management of the Judiciary. It also provides policy direction aimed at enhancing the effective and efficient delivery of justice.
The meeting signals the beginning of what is expected to be a period of policy refinement and institutional alignment under the new leadership of the Chief Justice.
