Africa-Press – Uganda. Ibanda District Council has approved a Shs41.49 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, signaling a notable increase in funding aimed at improving service delivery across the district.
The approved budget reflects a rise from the Shs36 billion passed for the 2025/2026 financial year, highlighting a growing allocation of resources to support key sectors.
According to budget details presented before the council, the largest share of funding will come from conditional grants totaling Shs26.9 billion, followed by unconditional grants amounting to Shs9.4 billion.
Other sources of revenue include development grants worth Shs2.6 billion, locally raised revenue of Shs 1.1 billion, external financing totaling Shs600 million, and other government transfers estimated at Shs688 million.
Vice District Chairperson Elias Tumubweine welcomed the increase in the budget, describing it as a positive step toward addressing the district’s development needs.
“This increment from Shs36 billion to Shs41.49 billion is a positive move that strengthens our ability to respond to the needs of our people and improve service delivery,” Tumubweine said.
The Speaker of the District Council, Godwin Muhumuza Oulanya, expressed optimism that the newly approved budget will help close existing gaps in key sectors.
“We believe this budget will go a long way in improving our road network and strengthening the health sector, where we still have some challenges that need urgent attention,” he noted.
Ibanda District has consistently ranked among the better-performing districts in service delivery, particularly in the education sector, a reputation leaders say they are determined to maintain.
With the new financial year approaching, district authorities have emphasized the importance of effective implementation, accountability, and prudent use of resources to ensure that the budget translates into tangible improvements for the community.
