Africa-Press – Uganda. Leaders of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) have paid tribute to the late Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli, describing her as a committed figure in the opposition struggle who remained engaged in national political debates until her death.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kampala, PFF Deputy President and Buikwe South MP Mathias Lulume Bayiga said Nakimuli was actively engaged in legislative discussions shortly before her passing.
Bayiga revealed that she had recently called on opposition MPs to critically review and debate the proposed Protection of Sovereignty Bill, which she believed required wider consultation to safeguard the interests of Ugandans.
“She believed the bill required broader consultation among leaders and citizens to ensure that the interests of Ugandans are protected,” Bayiga said.
He also noted that Nakimuli was among the guests expected to attend the celebrations marking Dr. Kizza Besigye’s 70th birthday, scheduled to take place this week at the PFF party headquarters.
According to Bayiga, her final public remarks during the Kabaka’s birthday celebrations in Namugongo reflected her consistent stance on issues of governance, accountability, and citizen engagement.
Gulu City Woman MP Betty Awol Ocan also extended condolences to Nakimuli’s family and colleagues, describing her death as a significant loss to the struggle for democratic governance in Uganda.
She said Nakimuli had remained a strong voice for justice and political accountability throughout her parliamentary service.
The PFF leaders urged Ugandans to honour her legacy by promoting unity and greater participation in national decision-making processes, saying her contribution to political discourse would be remembered within opposition ranks.
