Africa-Press – Uganda. The Presidential Envoy on Tourism and Trade, Ambassador Rosa Malango, has held discussions with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, on a new initiative aimed at using Uganda’s historical and cultural heritage to produce films that present an authentic image of the country to the world.

Ambassador Malango was accompanied by experts in theatre and film production during the meeting, where they outlined plans to develop a structured film strategy showcasing Uganda’s identity, culture, and tourism potential.

Katikkiro Mayiga welcomed the proposal and expressed strong support for the initiative. He noted that many people struggle to understand places they have never visited, adding that film is a powerful tool to bridge that gap and present Uganda accurately to international audiences.

He also emphasized the economic potential of the initiative, particularly in attracting investment and boosting trade.

“It is difficult for someone to invest in a place they do not understand. But if Uganda is well presented through film, it can attract investors and open up opportunities for our people,” he said, adding that a well-developed film industry could help improve Uganda’s global image and stimulate economic growth through increased investor confidence.

Ambassador Malango explained that the initiative is expected to create employment opportunities, especially for young people in the creative and film sectors. She stressed that the project would help showcase Uganda’s true cultural identity while promoting it as an attractive destination for business and tourism.

“This initiative will not only create jobs for our young people, but it will also allow us to tell Uganda’s story in a way that reflects our real cultural heritage and investment potential,” she said.

Ambassador Malango further called for collaboration with cultural leadership and relevant institutions to support partnerships that can attract investors into Uganda’s creative and tourism industries.

The proposed initiative is expected to position Uganda as a culturally rich and investment-ready destination through strategic use of film and media storytelling.
