Africa-Press – Uganda. Residents of Masaka, led by members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and security personnel, turned up in large numbers for a marathon held in celebration of the 52nd birthday of Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The run, which attracted a significant turnout, kicked off at Masaka Liberation Square in Katwe and wound through various streets across Masaka City, as participants demonstrated solidarity and marked the army chief’s milestone.
The event began with a warm-up session at the square, where NRM leaders, supporters, and security officials gathered ahead of the flag-off.
The atmosphere was lively, with participants singing songs in praise of Gen. Muhoozi and expressing birthday wishes.
The marathon was flagged off by State House mobiliser Robert Rwakandare, who commended the residents for their strong turnout and used the occasion to encourage parents to invest in their children’s future.
“I urge parents to prepare their children well so that they become responsible citizens who can contribute positively to the development of our country,” Rwakandare said.
He also called on residents to embrace hard work as a means of overcoming poverty.
“We must all commit ourselves to working hard if we are to uplift our livelihoods and fight household poverty because the Baganda say, ‘Atakole talyenga,’” he added.
Rogers Bulegeya, the NRM chairperson for Masaka City, urged residents to support vulnerable members of the community, emphasizing the importance of unity and social responsibility.
“Let us always extend a helping hand to those in need and restore hope among the less privileged. This is how we build a stronger and more united nation,” Bulegeya said.
Brigadier General Wilson Bagonza, the Deputy Commander of the Kasijjagirwa Armoured Brigade, praised Gen. Muhoozi for his efforts in addressing corruption, which he described as a long-standing obstacle to Uganda’s development.
“General Muhoozi has shown commitment in addressing corruption, which has for long hindered Uganda’s progress. We commend him for that dedication,” Bagonza said.
Government officials from the greater Masaka region also joined the celebrations, led by Sembabule Deputy Resident District Commissioner Faisal Sseruwaji, who congratulated the Chief of Defence Forces on reaching the milestone.
“We congratulate General Muhoozi upon reaching this important age and appreciate his service to the nation,” Sseruwaji remarked.
The birthday run in Masaka is part of a broader series of activities organized across the country to mark Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday.
The events reflect his expanding visibility in public life and continued support among sections of the population.
