Africa-Press – Uganda. Mubende District Community Development office has raised concern over increased cases of defilement in the area with 18 cases so far register in just four months.
According Ndagire Maria the the District Community Development Officer, it is unfortunate that the cases are are increasing yet the district fails to facilitate the department to enable it execute it’s duties including community sensitisation and awareness.
Ndagire revealed that some parents hide information concerning defilement in their areas , noting that the number of cases might be bigger than reported.
She said poverty among families has posed a challenge as parents no longer look after their children and this has forced them to look for ways of survival and end up being defiled.
Ndagire also talked about the increased cases of domestic violence , mentioning 86 cases reported in the last four months.
She appealed to government to increase on her office’s budget because they still have a need to sensitise communities through outreaches.
The department is also battling with the challenge of a reception center for juveniles.
Ndagire told Nile post that Mubende district imprisons juveniles with adults which is contrary to laws.
Nsengivunva Emmanuel Kabanda the Chairperson gender and Community based for Mubende district complained about the limited funds given to the department which can not enable them to perform their duties well.
He urged to the community to report cases of defilement so as perpetrators can face the law the only tool to be used in solving the problem.
Kellen Besigye the Vice Chairperson Mubende said that the district is planning to increase on the budget given to the department.
She also told Nile post that the construction of a reception center for juveniles is in the pipeline as the district has already released the funds.
